My Wedding!

The question I always got, and still get is 'Will you/ Did you make your own wedding dress?!' Of course! was the answer.... however No is the answer. Don't worry, I didn't give up- I got lucky.

I had every intention of making my own dress, but when we got engaged I didn't really have 'the dresss' dreamed up. In fact I had NO IDEA what I wanted! Well, more like I had too many ideas...
Well, it turned out that my grandmother's wedding gown from the 40's was a perfect fit. So with fingers crossed we sent a very yellowed but fantastically vintage gown to the cleaners and luckily got a beautiful white gown back.

I couldn't not make anything though! I found some really cute and delicate, but slightly stiff chantilly lace. It was perfect for a mini blusher/oversize birdcage veil.
My husband wanted a nice and thick bowtie, and we both love the diamond point tipped ties. I found a gorgeous green jaquard and made a wide but not too wide tie.

Costume Change!
For the reception my husband changed into a thinner plaid bowtie I made for him. I changed into a tea length skirt and a $15 linen shirt from H&M (that's right, I went all out for my wedding). The skirt was high waisted  with a dropped paperbag pleated waistline. The top layer was an organza with opaque floral designs. Layer 2 was a dotted swiss net. 3rd layer was a glitter tulle that just let a little sparkle through the other layers every once and a while. It was very fun and breezy and I will get a better picture of both soon.

A Skirt becomes a Dress

Shaina had found a beautiful rust colored chiffon skirt. The problem was that she was hoping for a dress.  We found a gold chiffon with a lovely shimmer to build a top, but this dress gets you in the details. A brown dupioni band at the waist added some really nice, but subtle texture behind the applique. The colors in the stones played off all of the colors of the dress really nicely. As a little touch to the skirt we added a few layers for fun. It's time for the party!

A Collar for Holly

Holly needed a dress to wear to her daughter's wedding. She found this lovely WTOO that looked absolutely fantastic on her and would have been the perfect thing in the right shade of purple... Except that she wanted a top that was a little more her, and perhaps not so plunging. That's where I came in.
Once her dress came in we cut off the top and made a mockup of the new one. This lets us make sure that we like the new design and that the fit is right before we go cutting up the fancy fabric.
After a few adjustments she was ready to walk down the aisle. Our final dress included pleating in the front, and just a touch of smaller pleating in the back. We added a collar that extended nicely out of the V neckline, showing off her neck. 3/4 sleeves with a french cuff and button detail and voila! It was a dress fit for Holly. A few finishing touches from her jewelry box sealed the deal.

Ties!!

What better Christmas present than a custom tie for your husband and son?! (and mathching at that) I made this full size tie and 2 child size ties for a friend of mine. I love these bold cotton prints! How often do you come across a tie with dear, rabbits, a bear and, my favortie part, a flying fish- can you find it?

Flowergirls are the cutest!

This was a fun project for me. This dress has a satin top with a tulle skirt to match the brides dress. Some navy blue ribbons match the wedding colors. An adorable dress for a super adorable flowergirl!
